I checked out the link, to make sure it was up right, and it is. I don't know what's wrong. I did get the error message when I clicked the link I put up, but...I checked what I posted against where Yahoo says my photos are, and I got it right. So here's the link, copied straight off Yahoo:

Try this link. I found it by going to my photo album and changing my username to Zook's username.

Yes, there are definite perks to my job. Most of them, save the baby deer, were out cold with sedatives. I also have pics that I haven't scanned in yet of me with a cheetah, a clouded leopard, and a palm civit, from when Jack Hanna and his entourage came to our zoo last month.

Yes, I did. He talked to my class. Very nice guy. I was impressed. And I got some very good information on what kind of experience (ie, paid vs unpaid) to get.

That's cool. He manages the zoo here in Columbus. That's why I was wondering.

The cat in the tree is our male bobcat, Sinew.

I miss Snowball. I want my baby!

Yes, that was a tiger. *VBG* Yes, I love what I do. And the one with the baby deer? That was/is Rolling Rock, the axis deer I got to assist in giving birth to. The story behind that is WHOLE other topic.

OMG. That is so funny. I thought that was a regular cat in the tree. :lol :lol Still cute as can be though.

Very Big I'll say. But why was he out cold? And what happened when he woke up? :lol

We knocked out the mother of Rolling Rock because she'd been in labor for six hours and was having a dystocia, or difficult birth. Basically, all they'd seen for six hours was the tips of his back feet. Right. They'd called the vet around 11am, but he (and I was with him) was so busy taking care of a 'crashed' tamarin (couldn't get back up into the tree) and a siezuring snow leopard (and that cat is a whole other story entirely), that we got to the dystocia around 6pm. When we got her into the main clinic, we took an x-ray of the mother, and the calf's head appeared on the film as if he were looking backwards over his shoulder. The neck was twisted. I think I heard it described as "like a taco". So they give her a shot of oxytocin, which induces uterine contractions (the same stuff your body gives off naturally when you go into labor), and with a little help from the vet (I'm on the front, holding the anesthesia mask over the mother's nose), out pops the baby. The tech takes the slimy creature and starts to clean him off. "He's alive!" she says, and starts vigriously slappign him around to get him to breathe. He does. The calf is dubbed Rolling Rock by the hoofstock keeper.

I seem to have bad hoofstock birthing karma or something; last summer when I was doing an internship at the zoo I now practically live at, one of the elk started to have a breach birth. Okay, so she finished it that way, too, but without human intervention, and it lived. Which breach births usually don't. I wasn't around for this year's birth; I was busy heaing up from my car accident at my parent's house.

Wow. Zook it sounds like that one day alone was quite busy. Are all the days at the zoo that crazy? :dunno

No, those are the exceptions to the rule. The usual thing is busy, but not insane.

:shake :shake And I was a mess when our collie had her litter of puppies and that was just one animal! Granted, it was my first puppy birth, so I was all excited. But I have to say, when our horse, Lady, gave birth to her filly this year. That was the coolest thing I've ever seen. That was my first birthing experience ever and it was hands down the most amazing thing. Her head got stuck, so mom and I had to grab her front legs and help pull when Lady pushed. And it all worked out great. Now we have a paint filly in the field who is nice as can be and actually just tied for Champion Weanling Filly of Ohio. And she only went to three shows! She's just beautiful! I'll have to scan a picture of her.

You have a horse? Have you mentioned this? Have I simply forgotten? That must be it. Yes, we need photos!

Laura. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it. We actually have 5 horses. I'll try to find some pictures. Plus, mom has a zillion collies. Some cats, some birds (parrots), a few fish. I've told my mom she could charge admission and I'd bring all my friends to the Zoo. :lol
Anyway, I'll try to find some pictures for you all.

Here's a picture of my mom's puppy Magic. He's 8 months old and this was his first show. He got Best of Winner's. The picture doesn't do him justice.
