Grey's Anatomy's, Katherine Heigl, Hits the Big Screen in Los Angeles for Exclusive Movie Event

Los Angeles moviegoers will have an exclusive opportunity to see Side Effects, the timely, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the pharmaceutical industry starring Grey's Anatomy's sexy intern Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl).

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 15, 2006 -- Prior to its national DVD release, Los Angeles moviegoers will have an exclusive opportunity to see Side Effects, the timely, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the pharmaceutical industry starring Grey's Anatomy's sexy intern Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl). The film will run on the big screen for a last-chance showing from May 12 to 18 at Laemmle's SUNSET 5 located at 8000 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, 90046.

Based on writer/director Kathleen Slattery-Moschkau's decade of experience working as a drug sales rep., Side Effects is a satirical, insider's look at the pill-pushing tactics of the pharmaceutical industry's leading companies. The film has been heralded across the country as a light and entertaining approach to a heavy issue.

With Michael Moore's film Sicko due out in fall of 2006, the pharmaceutical industry will have its hands full this year. “For me, this is not a witch hunt,” says Slattery-Moschkau. “It's about accountability, raising awareness, and leveling the playing field—the beauty of a free market system.”

Side Effects reveals the fascinating, and sometimes laughable journey of Karly Hert (Katherine Heigl), a young woman struggling with love, ethics and a discontented career in the pharmaceutical industry. Karly, seduced by the perks and benefits of corporate America, is oblivious to her own value system until she meets Zach Danner (Lucian McAfee), a down-to-earth guy who encourages Karly to walk her talk and leave her empty job. Karly finds out that leaving is never as easy as it seems.

Tickets for Side Effects will be available in advance from the Laemmle's SUNSET 5 Website at www.laemmle.com.

For more information about the film, or to arrange an interview with local L.A. producer Holly Mosher, or the filmmaker Kathleen Slattery-Moschkau, contact Cari Reisinger of Hummingbird Pictures at (414) 264-1065.

Celebrity diet: Katherine Heigl

Katherine Heigl, 27, plays Izzie Stevens on ABC's hit show Grey's Anatomy. Her real-life schedule is almost as hectic as her character's, with 15-hour days on the set, five or six days a week.

Heigl tells this month's Prevention that it's not always easy to make smart choices when it comes to diet and exercise. Here are a few of her slimming secrets:

On-set temptations: Nourishment often consists of takeout tacos or greasy Chinese, supplemented by a buffet of junk food. She recently gave up doughnuts and is trying to do the same with cigarettes.

What she drinks: Though she was raised Mormon, she long ago renounced the religion's prohibitions on caffeinated beverages -- but she sticks to antioxidant-rich tea.

What she eats: She loves red meat and potatoes, but prefers grazing lightly all day, rather than three meals. Most fruits are hard on her stomach, but she'll consume as much pineapple and kiwi as she can.

On portion control: "You need to trust your instincts," she says. "Who has time to be measuring out portions -- 20 percent this, 10 percent whatever?"

Her workout: Last year she bought an elliptical machine, and she tries to spend a half-hour on it three times a week. When she can't face the contraption, she hikes around her neighborhood. "Walking lets me trick myself into thinking I'm not exercising," she says.

Katherine Heigl to work on "Knocked Up" after "Grey's Anatomy"
By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith

'Grey's Anatomy" babe Katherine Heigl will be heading straight into shooting the big-screen comedy "Knocked Up" as soon as ABC's megahit reaches its quickly approaching season finale.
"It's with Judd Apatow, who did 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin.' I'm the knocked-up one," says Heigl with a laugh. 'It's crazy because I have to wear, like, a big prosthetic belly the whole movie. I'm of age to be having children, but it's just a weird concept to me."

The actress, who plays Isobel "Izzie" Stevens on the hit ABC series, admits, 'It's a little rough going directly from the show to another project. I wouldn't have minded a little vacation. As grateful as I am to be on the show, and as wonderful as it is, at this point, nine months in, I think we're all a little burnt out and tired and we need some new scenery for a few months. I'm sure we'll be chomping at the bit to come back."

As for what we can expect in "Grey's" upcoming episodes? "There are some big changes and I'm excited as an actor to play all of this stuff that they are beginning for me, but it's also hard to watch my character go through what she's going through. I don't want to give you more than that or they'll kill me," responds Heigl.

In the meantime, she's just enjoying the ride. "My career seems to have finally gotten to where I don't have to worry about it so much. It's not as much of a struggle so I can enjoy it more and relax into what it's become."

Heigl, who plays IZZIE STEVENS on the hit show, has been excitedly telling everyone about KATIE'S SONG. The AMAZING singer explains, "I've recorded the song two times now, the last time two days ago, and I'm still not happy with the recording. "There's not a lot of pressure for me to get it right; she's going to love it no matter what I do. But I need it to be really well recorded."
