Okay, so I have another question. For awhile now I've noticed that the main Smallville community is made up of these two. I guess I'm just wondering what the attraction is with the two of them? It's not that I see anything wrong with it as everyone is entitled to their opinions, but why them? I guess I just don't see it.

If you are talking about how people talk about those two characters...I'm guessing it's because of how they end up, which is shown in the Superman movies. Speaking for myself, I like watching how Clark and Lex's characters evolve.
I hope that helps, but believe me I'm still trying to piece this TV series characters together because I never watched it start to finish.

Blondee, I agree with you that they are the two main characters Evil vs. Good that we are all drawn too. Like what will transpire between them. But um, my question wasn't exactly referring to that. I should of worded it differently. I was referring to Slash. It seems that most sites, discussion, fics, and so on revolve around them, um, you know in that way.

well if you are talking about slash in general...i'm guessing (excuse me if i'm not being PC) because there are more people out there that like man on man when it comes to the Lex and Clark characters. *shrugs* which kind of throws me, because isn't the whole Superman thing far removed from that sort of thing? It seems unrealistic for that topic, if you ask me.

Clark/Lex is really popular, TWoP is big on the slash. Some people see it because Clark and Lex are best friends. They share and all. Plus, if you notice, Clark's look towards him last longer than his looks towards Lana. . There is one scene that I've heard of, though I don't really remember it, where Lex and Clark look at each other for 7 seconds and that the sound of a watch ticking was added in. Also, some people like to believe that they are enemies because of a relationship that ended badly. *shrug* I'm not really into the Slash. I don't see it, but apparently a lot of people do.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about CCC. Another question, What the hell does Fluff mean?

Fluff is what people sometimes call fanfiction that is happy and has no real substance, just a nice happy fic.

Now, what in the hell would be the point to that? I mean why would something without any real substance be appealing?

People are writing fanfiction about Clark and Lex (slash and otherwise) because they are two strong, interesting, dynamic characters. Because it is fun to explore their characters. Because there's an impulse to write between the lines.
Slash is something that you either like, or you don't. Those who don't like it won't see it, those who do, will. To each her own. (I like it, myself.)
But I think it's a tribute to the show that these characters are fascinating enough to make people want to write about them.
I also don't think it's a case of good vs. evil. People may have that expectation - and the writers and producers are drawing on that - but what has Lex done yet, in the course of the show, that is actually evil? He's been a good friend to Clark, and we've seen him do a lot of heroic things. (Going into the plant to talk to Earl in "Jitters", for example.)
Whitney has done far worse without blame.

> but what has Lex done yet, in the course of the show, that is actually evil? Bad!Lex = Drugging Dominic and locking him in the trunk (he *might* have suffocated) Blackmailing Nixon with the threat of changing his identity to a murderer or drug dealer, thus destroying his life. Obliquely threatening Nixon's brother with jail if he exposed the theft of his juvenile records. Destroying Hamilton's lab and placing him under a type of "lab arrest" at Cadmus. (I *own* joo dewd) > Whitney has done far worse without blame. Bad!Whit = Beating, stripping and hanging poor Clarkie up in the cornfield (risking death by exposure - Matthew Shepherd comes to mind) Hanging out with the Dawg Boys in Kinetic - that's accessory to breaking and entering, blackmail, extortion, intent to murder... Can't think of anything else off the top of my head... I'm thinking Whitney is just a thug, but Lex has the makings of a *great* politician. OH RIGHT - TOPIC... Lex & Clark = why? Because the looks and chemistry between the two far exceeds anything in interactions with other characters. There are entire camera shots that are based on the looks they exchange - no dialogue, just eye-gazing. Eg: the scene outside Jonothan's hospital room in Nicodemus.

I asked what Lex had done that was e-vil and Maboroshi replied: Quote: Quote: Drugging Dominic and locking him in the trunk (he *might* have suffocated)
C'mon, Lex the Scientific Genius knew to a molecule how much air was in there. Since when does he drive around with an airtight trunk? Naw, all that was hurt was Dominic's dignity. Quote: Quote: Blackmailing Nixon with the threat of changing his identity to a murderer or drug dealer, thus destroying his life.
Words, words, words. He didn't actually do it and we don't know that he would have. Besides, Nixon was about to destroy Lex's life and reputation - turn about is fair play. Quote: Quote: Obliquely threatening Nixon's brother with jail if he exposed the theft of his juvenile records.
Oh, you mean turning a felon in to the police for a crime he committed? Quote: Quote: Destroying Hamilton's lab and placing him under a type of "lab arrest" at Cadmus. (I *own* joo dewd)
Ooh, "lab arrest" is a great phrase, can I steal it sometime? Hamilton could have stood up for his principles and walked away. He didn't. Moreover, Lex's cruelty to him involves giving far better facilities, a real lab instead of a makeshift shack, a real budget, and a great deal of backing. Not to mention a salary. So is Hamilton suffering? I think not. He is able to complete his work under better conditions. Quote: Quote: Bad!Whit = Beating, stripping and hanging poor Clarkie up in the cornfield (risking death by exposure - Matthew Shepherd comes to mind)
He's a bully: he strung Clark up because he could. I find that hard to forgive. Quote: Quote: Hanging out with the Dawg Boys in Kinetic - that's accessory to breaking and entering, blackmail, extortion, intent to murder...
When he could have been at home watching TV with Lana. Quote: Quote: Can't think of anything else off the top of my head...
You left out: callously refusing to visit his sick and dying father in the hospital, when the poor old man wanted to see him but Whitney wouldn't go because he resented it that his father was ill. (Reaper) You left out: laughing at Clark when he was clumsy and throwing his book at him. (the Pilot) You left out: probably cheating on his exams, or at least abetting in exam-cheating and seeing nothing wrong with it. (Hothead) You left out: Bullying Lana for having friends of her own and going to a party without telling him beforehand. (Jitters) I won't deny Whitney has his okay moments, but I can't see him as a great person.

Geez, a gal would think you don't WANT Lex to be E-VIL. Okay, off we go then: Quote: Quote: C'mon, Lex the Scientific Genius knew to a molecule how much air was in there. Since when does he drive around with an airtight trunk?
Carbon Monoxide poisoning. It's icky. Quote: Quote: Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blackmailing Nixon with the threat of changing his identity to a murderer or drug dealer, thus destroying his life. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Words, words, words. He didn't actually do it and we don't know that he would have.
You think our E-VIL honey makes empty threats? pshaw. Nixon took him seriously, you betcha. Quote: Quote: Besides, Nixon was about to destroy Lex's life and reputation - turn about is fair play.
Hmmm... justifying E-VIL eh? Are you sure you're not a budding Lexual minion? Quote: Quote: Oh, you mean turning a felon in to the police for a crime he committed?
Nope, using the *threat* of it as a blackmail item against a third party. Lexy had no intention of turning him in out of the respect for Truth, Justice and...other stuff. Our boy is just That Way. Quote: Quote: Hamilton could have stood up for his principles and walked away.
'scuse me for a moment... heh... I'm back. Principles. heh. You slay me. Lexy *owns* Hamilton now. He has no independent means to continue his work, and Lex is holding a blackmail threat over him too (forgot to mention that little manouvre) Quote: Quote: I won't deny Whitney has his okay moments, but I can't see him as a great person.
Great Person? huh? I called him a thug (which will no doubt get me love letters from any Whitney fans Sorry gals in advance. I just never warmed to the Whit-man). Confess - you don't want Lex to turn to the Dark Side. I don't mind him being dark - as long as he doesn't hurt his Clarkie. Besides, how can I get my fix of kicked puppy-dog Clark looks and Lex Needs a Hug looks, if they don't keep lying to each other.

Squee! Thanks for the warm welcome bunniefuu! I'm not worthy! And now, to drag myself kicking and screaming back on-topic. Quote: Quote: I just found it interesting that it didn't revolve as much around C&L or even C&C that one would assume. Instead the base is widely revolved around C& LEX. That was were I was headed.
I think a main contributor to this effect is casting: KK is very pretty, but she is not an accomplished actress, and her scenes are laboured. And her character is not very well developed at this point. Lana is too self-involved and limited in experiences to be very interesting currently. Notice how almost all her conversations with Clark revolve around *her* and her current issues? Even when she evidences interest in Clark during 'Shimmer', it's in terms of what Clark does for her, not for who Clark *is*. Now Lex... The Sexy... he's a whole different matter. Michael Rosenbaum is an experienced actor, and brings layers of depth to a character that was already an intriguing puzzle. The juxtaposition of his jaded personality and Clark's shiny innocence makes them the natural centre of interest in the story, and it would take a very strong female lead to fight that. Chloe has a shot at it (I adore Chloe), but she's still not the major influence in C's life that Lex has the potential to be. Lana on-screen is an pretty, vapid, aesthetic picture. Lex on-screen is a mesmerizing event, full of shadow and nuance. Look at any scene with him and Lionel: these are two skilled actors; working the props, working the stage, moving, gesturing, reacting (occasionally chewing on the scenery if your initials are JG) and carving out turf for their characters. (pause for an adoring breath ) Sooooo, I think it's a logical reaction that Lex gets top billing in the fandom along with Clark, no matter what the publicity department of WB tries. It's a matter of charisma. And thanks again for the welcome my dear. Chin Chin!

I agree generally with all your comments, Maboroshi. (Can I call you Mab?) Rosenbaum and Welling work very well together; and Clark and Lex are written as complementary characters in just about every way. Innocence and experience; one of them physically extraordinary, the other mentally extraordinary; country contrasted with city, one with a loving family and the other without.
I love Chloe but Lana just doesn't seem to be good enough for Clark. With Lex there's chemistry and Charisma.
Moreover... I always loved Lana in the comic book but she didn't end up with Clark, so I wouldn't expect that here. Yes, I know I argue that Lex won't end up as in the comic... forgive me for carefully-chosen inconsistencies.

Lex is a very strong personality in the show, though it's my impression that Lana gets more screen time. Or does it just feel that way?
In any case, I'd certainly rather have more focus on Lex.
And though I said (sincerely) that I don't want to see them dealing with or even acknowledging DC canon on Smallville, Lex more than Lana has been more of a long-time fixture in Clark Kent's life. One way or another.
I don't think that has much to do with it though. It's simply that, generally speaking, Lex is way more interesting than Lana. More conflicted, more mysterious, more complex. (Dare I add, more sexy? That is of course in the point of view.)

I'm new to Smallville, Bunnie, but to me the Clark/Lex relationship is the most interesting thing on this show to me. I mean, I like the other characters okay, but when those two are in a scene together, suddenly the dramatic tension triples. I understand not everyone likes slashy pairing and that's fine, but these two are practically begging for fanfic. :-) The character of Lex, to me, is really sexy, more because of the way he acts than the way he looks. Pretty Boy Clark is cute when he's tripping over Lana, but things get much more interesting (for me) when he's with Lex.
Maybe the other reason I love Clark/Lex is because for me, every time Clark and Lana get together I think, "You're so not Max, and you're so not Liz." :-)
