Okay, I read this story a while back, and now I can find it. It's set in the future almost twenty years or something like that. Max, Michael, and Isabel had gone back to Antar, and Max finally returns. Isabel decided to stay on Antar and Michael was killed in battle. I think that Maria is already married, and she's trying to get Liz to move on and give up on Max. But the night before Max left to go home, they finally had sex, and from that she has a son. She names him Max, and he looks exactly like Max. He's a teenager already during the story, yada yada. Anyway, Max comes back and he's in some sort of disguise because he wants to just observe Liz's life for a little while before he trys to wedge his way back in. I think he might actually be some sort of professor. I'm not sure. But he needs a place to stay, and Liz has some sort of extra room that she lets him stay in.

Later their son is put in danger. I think Nicholas comes after him, and they have to use their communicating abilities to help find him and save him. I could go on and on about detail, but I think you probably get the point.
